2006 NACWA Service Charge Index January 30, 2007 - NACWA released the results of its 2006 NACWA service charge index which annually tracks average annual single-family residential service charge increases as measured against the rate of inflation. Because there is a wide range of rate structures implemented by utilities (e.g., one or a combination of flat rates, fixed or tiered volume rates, tax rates), the average annual single-family residential sewer service charge (inclusive of collection and treatment) provides a consistent benchmark to measure the price of service and changes in the price of service among public utilities nationwide. Average residential sewer service charges across the nation increased again in 2006, according to the NACWA Index. The annual NACWA Index demonstrates that the average sewer charge that a residential, single-family customer pays for wastewater services increased 6.4 percent nationwide in 2006 – more than double the rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The average sewer service charge for a single-fmaily residential user nationwide was $292.02 for the year 2006. For a full analysis of the NACWA Index, please see NACWA's March 2007 edition of the Clean Water News. |
